A First for Chile !

The Edinburgh Military Tattoo is the city’s major attraction every August. This is an event which for a period of two weeks draws thousands of spectators to the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. They come to hear military bands from all over the world and watch shows from different armed forces. There is always fine dancing, but the star attraction of the event is the programme of the massed pipe bands.

This year Gonzalo Quezada, a Chilean lawyer and pipe sergeant, was asked to forward videos of himself playing a program of pipe tunes set by the organizers. His piping was considered of such a high standard that he was invited to participate in the Tattoo. We wish to congratulate him on this wonderful achievement as we believe that he is the first Chilean piper to be invited to play in the Edinburgh Tattoo.

This will not only be a holiday for Gonzalo, as he will spend many hours practising with the band and the massed pipes and drums. Hopefully Gonzalo will find time between rehearsals to enjoy Edinburgh.

We are proud to have a piper of his stature as part of the Andes Highlanders Pipe Band. We are sure that what he learns from this experience he will pass on to other members of the band and perhaps we will see many more members of the band participating in the Tattoo.

You can contact the band through their manager Cony Pfeng, conyp86@gmail.com or cell-phone 93509527.
