Royal British Legion Annual Remembrance Garden Party - RESCHEDULED
We regret to advise you that the Garden Party has been cancelled for the time being.
I know that we all appreciate the difficulties that Chile is facing at this time. We had hoped and believed that the situation would have improved sufficiently for the Garden Party to go ahead. In particular we were determined to proceed with the Garden Party because it is so important to our beneficiaries and the Legion. It is also an important social event for the community, we believe.
Today we became aware of a planned march on Apoquindo, the date and timings of which will overlap with the Garden Party. The Legion feels that it is not reasonable to expect our staff and guests, and the staff and guests of the Embassy to cross that situation coming in, and even more unfair to disregard the difficulties that may exist in getting home afterwards.
Further, if a large event is happening at the same time we cannot count on the usual level of support from the Carabineros and other emergency staff in the event that we should need them.
It is, however, our intention to reschedule this important event and honour our existing guest list as soon as we can. It is impossible at this moment to tell you exactly when it will be rescheduled to, but it will happen and it will happen as quickly as we are able to do so safely. We need to make sure we are confident of the safety of all attendees, staff and participants and that it is an appropriate moment for such an event.
