Pedro Pfeffer, Chairman of ICBC provided the following report for 2018:

Year 2018 was an important one for ICBC, as it marked the 80th Anniversary and as part of the celebrations a party was held in May, to which most of the staff, directors and friends from other institutions were invited. Other special activities were carried out with key ICBC clients to celebrate together and reward their loyalty.

Two very important events also marked the year:

  • The opening of our new ICBC branch in Ciudad Empresarial. This branch began operations in September and is looking to cater to training needs of all the companies in the area.

  • The launch of on-line ICBC radio at the end of the year. This on-line radio is all in English. Music and other home prepared content will be available.

As on other occasions, ICBC welcomed and celebrated the arrival of Ambassador to the UK in Chile, Mr Jamie Bowden with a luncheon at Club de la Unión. (see photo below). On the occasion, the newly designated Ambassador to Chile in the UK, Mr David Gallagher, was also given a send-off. Members of the board, ICBC and UCBC authorities and friends form other institutions gathered together at this event.

Cultural events continued to play an important part of our day-to-day activities. Presentations, exhibitions, lectures, conversation meetings, cinema and music, among others, were part of the wide range of activities carried out throughout the year. As has been a tradition, ICBC was also present in activities with the British and Commonwealth Society, the English-Speaking Union ESU, the Royal British Legion, among others.

The teacher training college reached a significant number of new students joining the translation programme, going up to nearly 200. The TTC is also working hard on broadening its educational offering, for which new programmes are being designed and it is expected that these will be launched in 2020.

The University continues to run continuous education programmes, such as Diplomas, Certificates, CELTA and has also contacted a many school to offer the Cambridge International Educational (CIE) programme. That said, the authorities denied the autonomous status of the University and, as a result the UCBC has since begun working on new projects.
