Letter from our Chairman, Mr. Michael Hardy

The Audience, featuring Helen Mirren’s brilliant portrayal of

the Queen, comes to Santiago via National Theatre Live (NTL)

on Monday, November 9th!

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Society,

National Theatre Live (NTL) is an initiative in the UK which broadcasts top theatre

performances throughout the country in High Definition to a massive audience. It is an excellent experience - like actually sitting in the theatre watching a live performance. The response in the UK has been phenomenal, bringing thousands flocking to theatres all over the country.

These NTL High Definition projections are now being shown in Chile (some live) by the Teatro Nescafé de las Artes. Their annual programme covers a selection of West-end and Broadway plays.

And now the British Commonwealth Society (BCS) has come to a special agreement with the Teatro Nescafé. Not only will the Teatro Nescafé give our members special discounts for their regular performances, but also, we plan to choose some plays to show at private events as a fund raising activity for the BCS' charitable causes.

We kick off on November 9th with the performance of The Audience, and are planning future events which will include such plays as War Horse and the recent production of Hamlet with Benedict Cumberbatch.

The admission charge will cover the costs for the theatre and raise money for BCS' charitable causes. Whereas the tickets to these plays in London and New York must be booked many months in advance, and are sold at outrageous prices, our admission fee has been kept as low as possible:

  • Members - $5.000,

  • Non Members - $7.000

as we want to encourage as many people as possible to attend. We see this initiative as a relevant way to offer British cultural events to the community, as well as to raise funds for our charitable work.

Kind regards,

Michael Hardy

Chairman
